Sinus gunk
I finally brokedown today and went to the doctor. I have not been feeling well since Friday, I had a headache that would not go away along with some coughing and congestion. Saturday I got some over the counter stuff. I had completely lost my voice by Sunday and didn't go to work on Monday. The doctor said I had a sinus infection (my mother of course pointed out that she told me this on Sat.) and gave me a shot of some steroid stuff. He also gave me some pain meds and an antibiotic. I am not going to work again tomorrow and hopefully I will start feeling better. May is an extremely busy month for me and I can't afford to be sick during all that is going on.

Bolton High School Musical
We went to see the spring musical tonight at Bolton. They were doing High School Musical so of course I had to take the kids. They really enjoyed the show. The kids who were in the show did an excellent job. It was fantastic and very entertaining. At the end they got the little kids out of the audience and brought them on stage to dance and sing with them. My kids would not go up there, I do not know what their problem was. Of course I am thinking what a cute picture that would have been. After the show the actors stood in the foyer and took pictures with the kids and signed their autographs in the back of the programs. Before Kyle even knew the actors were out in the lobby he looked at me when the lights came up and said "I want to go see Troy and get a picture with him". The teens were really good sports about this.
Here are my kids and "Troy"
Here is Kaitlyn and her autographs as well as "Chad" signing her book.
And here is "Gabrielle" and "Sharpay"
And one last one is Kyle and "Zeke"

Time out and a recipe
Tonight at church we had a "time out" for women. In other words we were to take some time out and just come to the building for a potluck of salads and desserts and to fellowship with each other. I am not a big salad eater but I decided to go anyway. I made a Peach Pie Filling Salad. It was a recipe of my grandmother's. It is a good recipe because you can keep all the ingredients on hand and make it in a hurry. Unless you drop the can of peach pie filling on the floor and cannot open it with any can opener you have in your house because the top and bottom are poking out. So I had to go to the store and buy another can.
Here is the recipe:
Mix together these ingredients in a large bowl and chill.
1 small can of pineapple chunks (drained)
1 small can of mandarin oranges (drained)
1 can fruit cocktail (drained)
1 can of peach pie filling
Marshmallows (about 1 cup, I just put in enough to it looks like enough)
Bananas (about 2 large bananas, cut in slices)

Idol chat -- the top 6
After watching Tuesday's night performances I was real worried about Brooke. She has been my favorite all along. I voted for her about 30 times and I guess it worked because she was safe. She was as shocked as I was about it though. I think she had prepared herself to go home and really it should have her and Jason in the bottom 2. Jason is griping on my nerves. I don't like his style but he is also acting like he does not care about the competition. So the bottom 2 were Syesha and Carly. Both of them did a fantastic job last night. I have liked Carly all along and Syesha is growing on me. I was shocked and sad to see Carly go home. I think the final two will be David C. and David A. I think David C. should win but we shall wait and see. I was not too impressed with the Andrew Lloyd Weber theme and next week is Neil Diamond, I am not excited about that one either.

Ball practice
Kyle is playing tee-ball and Kaitlyn is playing softball this year. Both on teams for church. They play in the Faith Baptist league at Buckhead creek. Kaitlyn played teeball when she was 5 and 6 for this same league. I didn't think softball would be her thing. She is not very athletic and gets bored easily. I didn't think it would be active enough for her. But she is really liking it and doing pretty good. She is listening to the coach and doing what they say (which is rare for her). They began to practice hitting yesterday and she did a good job and made contact with some of the balls. Kyle is doing pretty good practicing tee-ball also. However he gets tired and walks off the field to get a drink often. When it was his turn to hit the ball he hit it pretty good and then on the last try Jeff told him to run. So he hits it and begins to run to first base but a little girl caught the ball and he stopped midway to first base and ran back to home. I guess he thought his turn as over since she caught the ball.

What can you say about a girl who's movin' on
I remember my first day at new teacher orientation. I was scared out of my wits. I was thrilled when there was another new math teacher that was my age. We almost immediately became friends. That was 8 and a half years ago. Now we scrap together, have kids the same age and hang out. Our friendship has truly grown over the past 8 and a half years and especially in the last 3-4 years. I spent a good bit of time of the last three days just hanging with her and her family. The moving truck packs it up tomorrow. I am very sad to see her go. I held myself together pretty good last night, I didn't want the night before the move to be sad. I know she is excited and I am excited for her but I am still sad, very sad. I do keep telling myself that in this technology age it will be easier to keep in touch and as I have been told "Good Friends are Forever".

Good game!
Kyle had his first soccer game this morning. They had only had one practice due to all the rain we have gotten here lately. It just didn't work out and the fields were always too wet. So it was very interesting for a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds to play a game they only practice once. However they did really good. Kyle tried to catch the ball a couple of times with his hands but otherwise he played well. He kicked the ball and tried to go after it. Mainly they just kicked the ball out of bounds over and over. Kyle's team did score 4 goals and the other team only one. Kyle's team is red. I let him keep his pants on this morning instead of the short. It was so cold and windy. His next game is Thursday night at 5:45 and it supposed to be a pretty day.
And here they are shaking hands with the other team.

Mock Car Crash
Bolton had a lot of tragedy last year. We lost 4 students to traffic related accidents. Our principal has really been advocating some programs to help make our students aware of their driving. Today some of students witnessed a mock car crash. I did not go down there but I saw pictures and heard all about it. The students gathered on the football field. There was a tarp covering the accident. When it was time they pulled off the tarp and revealed the two wrecked cars that appeared to have a head on collision. There were real students in those cars with some very good make up on making this wreck look very realistic, they were a couple hanging out the windows. One girl was slumped over the steering wheel and screaming because she was supposed to be paralyzed. They had a real ambulance and police cars pull up with the sirens going. The paramedics got out and took one kid out of the car and put him in a body bag. They got a couple more out and laid them on the ground. Then they got a couple more out and put them on stretchers. They got the one girl that was supposed to be paralyzed and screaming out using the jaws of life. The hospital helicopter landed on the field and they put the girl in the helicopter. It was pretty intense looking and very real-like. There were some kids in the stands that were crying. Hopefully the people in charge will think this went well and the kids will remember this and it will make an impact on them.

Idol Chat -- the top 8
Here are my thoughts on American Idol this week.
The bottom three will be Syesha, Carly, and I am undecided on the third. Maybe Jason, maybe Kristy, maybe Brooke. I think Syesha will be packing her bags this week.
Micheal Johns, David C. and Carly have been at the top of my list for a while but none of them did very well last night. David A. did okay but I have not really been a fan of his all along. Plus we have learned that he has a crazy stage father. I really like Brooke and I voted for her but I think she is becoming too emotional. You cannot be emotional if you want to make it in this business. I thought Jason did pretty good but he just isn't my style. Kristy had a great night I thought and probably kept herself from going home this week. She sang a Martina McBride song, Anyway, and it really fit her. Syesha sang I Believe by former AI winner Fantasia. Someone needs to inform Syesha of the unwritten rules for song choice. You don't sing Whitney, Mariah, or Celine, no matter how good you think you are. And you don't sing songs by former AI front runners or winners. Especially when Randy and Simon loved them so much. Syesha has broken both of these rules the last two weeks and I don't think she can hang on much longer.

April fool's day
I don't ever pull any April Fool's day pranks and I tell my students that I am unprankable, and from their end I am (they are just not as good as they think they are). But ever year on this date I cannot help but think of this story that happened to my dad. This had to be at least 20 years ago. FM100 announced that Michael Jackson was coming in concert (this was when he was all that). My Dad got so excited and was calling ticketmaster trying to get tickets for me and him to go. He called and called and they were like "sir we don't know what you are talking about". He was so insistent and kept telling them that the radio station just announced it. It took him forever before he realized that it was a joke.
So have you ever pulled a really good April Fool's day joke or had one played on you?
