A day at the Zoo

John's work, Buckeye, had family day at the zoo today. Of course John had to work so my mom went with us. We had lunch there and the kids saw most of the animals, they also got to ride the rides.

Kaitlyn took this notebook and wrote down all the animals that we saw.

Tiger

Red Panda

Meerkats (aka Timon)

Toucan

Penguins

Butterflies (this was my favorite)

Giraffes, they are looking over the wall at the new baby giraffe that was recently born.

Elephants

Panda, they are always sleeping.

I tried all day to get some good pictures of my kids but they just were not having it. They were much too busy doing other things. But these two are okay.

First caller of the day

FM100, a local radio station, has a first caller of the day deal that they do every morning about 5:45 a.m. You can just call about that time and they give you a prize just for being up early. It is a once in a lifetime thing (so says Ron and Karen) so I have been waiting til I thought they were giving away a prize I could use. So this morning I called and got through!! I talked to the DJ, Ron Olson for a minute. I tried not to say too much because I was still half asleep and sound really dumb on the radio. But he gave me 4 tickets to the Delta Fair this week!! We were planning to go on Wednesday anyway so this will save us some money. Now I just have to find the place this afternoon to pick up the tickets.

Mommy take my picture

I take a ton of pictures of my kids. It is the scrapbooker in me that has caused me to try and develop my photography skills (which are slim). The key to a great scrapbook page is a great picture. The more pictures I take the better I get so my poor children have to look at me and smile a lot. Kyle however loves this. He has that cheesy grin. I wish I could find a way to get him to act more natural with his smile but the cheesy grin is so cute. He is always showing me something and says "take my picture with this" or "take my picture here". Kaitlyn does this too, just not as much. So while we were at Susan and Shane's on Saturday he noticed they have a porch swing. He came and said "mommy come here and take my picture". Glady! So he posed several times before running back off to play in the water slide.

Need a laugh

I was turned on to this blog today: Cake Wrecks
Hilarious! **Warning, there are some offensive things on the blog but there are lots that are good for a laugh (and an out loud laugh at that!)

New Niece

Susan calls me at 6:30 this morning. She was almost to the hospital and had been having contractions all night. So I get up and leisurely take a shower and begin getting ready. I was taking my time because I was going to need to take my kids to my mom's house and I knew I didn't want to wake her too early. So then I talked to Lora about 7:25 and she said Susan was 5.5 cm and her contractions were about a minute apart. I thought okay well I guess I better get a move on things. I dropped my kids off and called Shane at 8:05 and he said she was now at 7 cm. So I am racing down g-town pkwy to get there. When I got there she was getting her epidural. By 9:30 she was at 9.5 cm but her water still had not broken. The doctor came in about 10:30 and broke it for her. At 12:15 she was still at 9.5 cm and the baby had pooped in her stomach earlier so they decided to go ahead and do a c-section. So then I had to leave (I was going to get to stay in the room for the delivery but only person can go back for a c-section). At 1:03 Peyton Elizabeth Davis finally arrived. We didn't get to see her until about 4:30 but she is so precious. She weighed 9 pounds 4 ounces. She wins the award for biggest baby by far.

Jade's birthday party

We went to Jade's (my niece) birthday party today. She turned 2 yesterday! She cracks me up with everything she does. We had waterplay and finger painting along with cake and ice cream, oh and a chick-fil-a nugget tray (that was really for the adults).

Sliding down the big slide:

We were too slow for her on cutting the cake and singing Happy Birthday, she grabbed a fork and starting digging in:

Then she finally got to blow out the candles.

Painting

Opening presents (I love her facial expressions)

Find me some earplugs

Kaitlyn bought her recorder for music class today. I did not have a recorder until the 5th grade so I was hoping for a couple more years without that. It only cost $6.25 so that is a little bit of a plus but I thought for sure they would leave that thing at school. Nope, she brings it home today. She calls it her flute and loves to play it. I told her to quit playing it and she says "but moooooom I have to practice" I said well then we are going to have to have a designated practice time each night (like 6:00 to 6:05 maybe).

Just isn't the same

I went back to work this week. We just have inservice this week. I am starting my 10th year teaching. This is the first year that I haven't had my friend Abbie there with me. (see this post if you need an explanation for that). It just isn't the same. I've always had her to complain to, roll my eyes at, sit in all the boring faculty meetings with, and basically keep me from getting too much work done (ha!, I'm just kidding bout that one). I told Jeff (a fellow math teacher) earlier this week that I was going to need a new work BFF and he was it (jokingly), he just laughed (a little scared I think). So Wednesday morning they make an announcement that the Army was here and they brought us Chick-fil-a for breakfast, it is in the cafeteria. I grabbed my keys and went downstairs and my new BFF had already left me. I caught up to him and said "Um, we need to have a chat about the rules of being my new best friend, you cannot leave me like that". He laughed (again slightly scared) and said "I'm a guy and there was food involved!". Abbie would have not left me for food so Jeff is fired, he didn't last long did he?

So I get to sponsor SGA this year by myself. That should be interesting. They messed the lunch schedule all up. Upstairs north has D lunch and downstairs north has E lunch. I do have 4th planning so I can eat whenever I want but I am not sure I can wait until D lunch and I know I can't wait until E lunch so I can eat with my friends. But I do have all Geometry so that is good.

New teacher

I went to register Kaitlyn today for school. Can you believe I have a 3rd grader?!! I took her with me because they get to meet the teacher and see where her classroom is located. Her teacher's name is Mrs. Blaylock and she seemed very nice. We were not too pleased with her 2nd grade teacher and 3rd grade is a tough year so I really praying for a good teacher. Kaitlyn is one of those students that if she likes you, she will perform better. We will see ut so far so good!

because you have kids

Tonight I went back to my room to watch some tv. John was working and I thought the kids would watch a movie in the den. It does not matter what I am doing or what room I am in, it seems as though my kids always follow me. So of course they followed me in my room and I looked at them and said "ya'll go on and watch your movie", they ignored me and I then said to them "why can mommy not ever watch tv by myself?" Kyle looks at me very plainly and says "because you have kids mommy!". Yes thank you for pointing out the obvious and what I have grown to know all to well.
