Our Snowgirl

Kaitlyn had been wanting to build a snowman since it started snowing on Saturday. Sunday morning when we went out to play the snow was too powdery and she couldn't get it to stick together. But yesterday afternoon the snow had already started to melt so it stuck together pretty good. We built the bottom and she got frustrated with the top. I went inside but she was determined to make it work. I brought her a pink scarf and hat then we used a film canister for the eyes and nose and sticks for the arms. We couldn't find anything for the mouth so Kaitlyn just drew it with her finger.

wrong on so many levels

So the blizzard of the century hits Memphis over the weekend and we still have school today. Now yes most of the city streets are fine and drivable (is that a word?) but out here in the boonies at Bolton it was quite treacherous. I took some pictures of Austin Peay and Millington-Arlington street this morning from my dashboard (yes I know probably not the safest thing to be doing while driving through ice and snow but you know I have to take pictures of everything!). I am a southern girl, I don't know how to drive in ice and snow, though granted I did arrive safely.

Here is one of our teacher parking lots as I pulled in and my car parked in the 6 inches of snow that have not melted on the north side of the building (due to the shade).

There is so much ice on campus our poor plant manager has been working his tail off all morning trying to shovel it all. I hope to get a picture of the breezeway before I leave.

a foot of snow?!

It just snowed and kept on snowing yesterday. We went out to play about 5:45 last night and then not too long later you could not even tell we had been out, our footprints were completely covered again. This is the sight from our front door and then the front of our house this morning (I went out before the kids got up to take these shots).

Church was even canceled this morning, that has never happened. I have never seen so much snow. I measured 7 inches on top of John's car. I took a picture of the ruler but it didn't turn out right. There were lots of big icicles hanging from the house.

The kids of course went out to play again, this time they just wore their pajamas.

The snow was so deep the kids almost got lost trying to make snow angels. You can see the snow up to Kyle's knees in some of these pics.

it's a blizzard

Well at least it is a blizzard in Memphis terms. It started snowing about 2:00 or so this afternoon. It snowed and snowed and snowed. I think it is still coming down. I let the kids go out and play for a few minutes and it was so cold! My pictures did not turn out very well, hopefully the snow will still be there tomorrow and we can try to make a snowman.

Just starting:

After about an hour:

And here is an interesting photo, since it was so warm earlier in the week the tree had already started budding. Then came the snow. It is supposed to be in the 70's at the end of next week again.

cookie dough for me

Kaitlyn is selling cookie dough and candles for her school fundraiser. We normally don't participate in these fundraisers for various reasons. It always makes Kaitlyn mad because she doesn't get to win any of the prizes, you know the cheaper than the dollar store prizes. Seriously kid, I will get you something from the dollar store if that is all you care about. Anyway, I told her this time she could ask my mom at church if she wanted to get any of the cookie dough. So last night she asked her and my mom says "Now Kaitlyn you know I can't have any cookies on my diet". Kaitlyn says "that's okay Gran, you can just make them for me!".

Waterhose play

Since the weather is so crazy it was 72 in Memphis yesterday. I came home to discover John and Kyle in shorts and t-shirts and washing the car. Kyle was having a fun time with the waterhose so I went in and grabbed my camera. Besides trying to get some cute pictures of Kyle I was also playing with my shutter speed to try and "freeze" the water (neither really worked).

Without the Me's

Kyle is going to participate in song leading this year at Lads to Leaders. He is really too young for this (there is a K-2 participant level but he isn't in Kindergarten yet) but I figure if he is going to be there for Kaitlyn he might as well try it out. So he goes to the practice on Sunday afternoons. Today I asked him what song he decided to sing and he said "Jesus Loves Me" (a slight pause) "without the me's". I said I don't think you can leave out the me's when are singing it at L2L's and he said yes I can.

Jackson's party

Kyle got invited to Jackson's 5th birthday party at Pump It Up today.

Valentine's Day

I usually buy the kids a small something for Valentine's day but this morning I went to Target and they had several things on clearance. I had already bought Kyle a movie but I found him a Transformers hat for $1.98 and a couple of dollar spot items. Then I had already got Kaitlyn a small HSM cube digital picture frame (it was on clearance at Michael's for $10) but I found some Camp Rock jersey sheets at Target for $4.98!!

google name game

I have been checking other people's blogs lately and saying to the computer "why don't these people update their blog". Then I realize that I haven't posted anything in two weeks! Well there has been nothing going on here. January and February are usually boring months for us. I am doing the 365 project (to take a picture everyday) and I figure if I can get through spring break and take a picture everyday then I should be good to go because we will have soccer starting, Lads to Leaders, Easter, Teeball, Softball, then summer is here, then Kyle starts Kindergarten, then birthdays and holidays, etc.! I guess I should enjoy the "boring" months.

Here is a fun game I played on Facebook the other day. It is called the google name game.

This was remarkably silly, fun, and not-time-consuming.

Rules:
Google Game: Go to Google and type in quotation marks your name and then "likes to" (ex. "Steve likes to"). Type in the first ten things that come up and re post in your own note.

Jennifer likes doing it with Vince better
Jennifer likes to multitask during sex
Jen likes to dance (although everyone else does not like to watch Jen dance)
Jennifer likes to keep Pitt's phone messages
Jennifer likes iron work
Jennifer likes taking pictures
Jen likes to take candid pictures of me
Jennifer likes to push up
Jennifer likes to walk around in the nude
Jennifer likes to be called Mom

Try it, it is really funny!
