more conversations with Kyle

Kyle: I want to go to the north pole for my birthday
Me: Why?
Kyle: to play in the snow, (pause) and see Santa so he can give me presents
Me: why is Santa just going to give you presents?
Kyle: no my friends are going to give me presents
Me: oh your friends are going with us?
Kyle: yea, duh
Kyle: how cold is the north pole? (because all the while he is talking Kaitlyn is yelling "it is too cold at the north pole dummy" over and over)
Me: it is very very very very cold
Kyle: well I can just wear a big jacket, (thinks for a long minute) well how come the elves don't have to wear jackets?
Kaitlyn: because they work inside, duh!

Making Pizza

I have several new recipes that I want to try. I have found several new blogs that post recipes daily, I actually added a new blog list on the side just for recipes.

First I found these stuffed pizza bites. They looked really good and they tasted about as good as they look. They were not as easy to put together as I had hoped but still not too difficult.

Then I found a recipe for baked potato pizza which in my opinion is the whole reason to go to Stevie B's to eat. This is not as good as Stevie B's (of course) but it was still pretty good and fairly simple to make.

I also made a hot wing pizza and a pepperoni pizza last night at Luke's. On the baked potato pizza I used the roll of refrigerated Pilsbury pizza crust. On the other two I made last night I used a prepared pizza crust and it was not very good. Plus I think I added too much cheese (if there is such a thing). I might try the hot wing again with the Pilsbury dough instead.

Now I realize this totally contradicts my smoothie post and trying to eat more healthy (because clearly these pizzas are not "healthy") but I just said I was trying to add more healthy stuff. I didn't say I was only eating healthy stuff.

Spring break scenes

Here are just some random shots I took of the kids this past week. They played outside a lot.

Incredible Pizza

We took the kids to Incredible Pizza today as our one spring break outing. They love this place but it is soooooo expensive. We still have some money left on the cards so we can go back in the summer.

Kaitlyn was thrilled to get lots of tickets from one game. They ended up with 307 between them.

Kyle wanted to ride these go-karts so badly.

Smoothies

I don't eat healthy. I just don't. I like food that is bad for me. I just do. I only eat 3 vegtables: corn, green beans and potatoes (any kind). However I am told that the potatoes don't really count and the corn is just starch so even that doesn't count. My kids actually eat a lot healthier than I do and John eats worse than I do. Kaitlyn likes all kinds of veggies and I can't keep fruit in the house with Kyle because he will eat it all in one day. He loves tomatoes, I will buy about 5 of them at a time. He eats them like apples and they are gone in one day. Good, yes but expensive! He loves to go to Easy Way with me, he calls it the fruit store.

So in my effort to eat a little more healthy I am trying to make smoothies in the afternoons and eat some kind of fruit for breakfast every morning. At least it is a start.

I found several smoothie recipes that look appealing to me. The first one I tried was a blueberry pomegranate smoothie. I don't think this one is technically a smoothie because there is no dairy in it so I would call it a slush. But it uses pomegranate juice which apparently is really good for you. I liked it but I think I needed to blend it a little longer. Here is that recipe: blueberry pomegranate smoothies.

Then I found this website with lots of different recipes on it. I tried the Strawberry, Pineapple, and Banana smoothie. It was good too. Even better the next day after what I was left over had set in the fridge for 24 hours. Here is that one:

Then I turned to the trusty ole Allrecipes site and searched for smoothies. Yesterday I tried the Chocolate Strawberry one and it was good too (maybe not quite as healthy).

The nice thing about them is they are pretty filling so you are not hungry later and Kaitlyn loves them so they make a good after school snack for her. If I keep this up I am going to need a new blender though.

put down your drink before you read this

I heard this song on the radio this morning so I went to youtube to find it. I love Chick-fil-a so I think this song is fantastic.

He is apparently a Christian comedian and has several different videos I looked at on youtube. HILARIOUS!! When you have some time, watch some of the others, it will be worth it.

Then I searched for Chonda Pierce on youtube. I saw her live several years ago and have one of her cd's. She is even more hilarious than the previous guy. Here is one short video of hers. I will probably upload more of her in the future because she is so funny!

Basketball awards

Kyle had his awards ceremony for basketball last night. The kids wore their jerserys and all sat together. First they all ran in kinda like they did at the beginning of every game.

Then they showed a slide show of the kids during the season. Next they had a magician, the kids were in awe over his tricks.

Then they passed out the trophies and gave each kid an over the door hanging basketball goal thingy. Kyle said he enjoyed playing and wants to play again next year. Although, I don't think there is a sport that this kid doesn't want to try and play. He loves them all so far.

Kyle and Lucas

And one of Kaitlyn just for fun, she wanted to watch the magic show from the balcony.
