Cabin Fever

Our neighborhood streets were still pretty icy on Sunday. This is the view at about 12:30 p.m. They were slushy in places but still ice in some.

Well we did not leave the house from Thursday night until this afternoon, so about a total of 66 hours of just hanging out at home. I could stay at home a lot longer but John and the kids are going stir crazy so we ventured out to Luke's house today. John's cousins and their kids came over too so there were a total of 15 adults and 11 kids at one time in that house. CRAZINESS!!

We of course ate good. Luke grilled pork chops and steaks and we had corn, green beans and mashed potatoes, the usual. We had rotel to snack on and cake for dessert.

Then Kaitlyn and Kyle tried to build a snowman. Kyle gave up but Kaitlyn kept trying and got Aaliyah to help her when she got there. There efforts did not get them a snowman though. It just wasn't happening with all the ice.

Peyton was happy to stay in and eat a puzzle and Cohen was happy to stay in and read a book with his Daddy but he looked oh so cute in that hat!

School is already canceled for tomorrow so we can make 4 mornings with no alarm and sleeping past 9:00!

Iced in at the house of Luttrell

Friday morning schools were called off due to the threat of icy weather moving in to the area. The school officials did right listening to the weather people because it starting sleeting early morning. About 9:30 it started snowing really pretty big flakes.

Those only lasted about 30 minutes and then it was back to more sleet and freezing rain.

The kids wanted to play outside but I told them not to worry the white stuff would still be there tomorrow. Plus we got a little bit more snow through the night Friday night.

So Saturday morning we woke up to this:

Looks are deceiving though because it was ice, then some snow on top, then more ice on top of that. So it crunched when you walked on it. The kids were sad that is was not good for building snowmen, making snow angels or even throwing snowballs really. But they still played out for a while anyway.

Kyle ice skating on the street

There was no school on Friday, no basketball this morning and church services have been canceled for in the morning. The streets are literally sheets of ice. We have not left the house since Thursday night. Here is what we have been doing to keep ourselves occupied.

We played Life (which Kyle won, interestingly enough he was the only one who chose to go to college at the beginning of the game), played Cranium (which was really too hard for the kids and ended up being me vs. John), made homemade hot chocolate and played the Wii. We also did lots of laundry and cooking. Being iced in is not so bad!

Mowhawk

I got my hair cut today so when Kaitlyn saw me she complained that she needed her hair cut too (and she does). So Kyle says "I want to make my hair curly". I was trying to think of a way to tell him his hair was made straight and we cannot just make it curly and before I could get any words out of my mouth he says "well actually I want a mowhawk!" I am not even sure how he knows what that is.

Hanging out at Luke's

We spent a good part of Saturday and Sunday hanging out at Luke's house. We do this often and I know I have blogged about it before. Here are some pics of this past weekend and some things we do while playing over there.

Ashley mesmerized by Barney and a couple of other cute ones:

And while I was trying to get a cute picture of her, her daddy walked right past her and did not pick her up. She did not appreciate that at all. To say she is a daddy's girl would be an understatement.

The boys rotating my tires:

The girls cooking dinner (pork chops, mashed potatoes and corn):

And ice cream cake for dessert because it was John's birthday:

Kyle playing basketball:

Cohen and Aaliyah:

All of that was on Saturday, then Sunday we had fun with Sidewalk chalk and the karaoke machine.

Kyle's alien

Cohen says "look there's me"

All of the art, they drew their own houses on the pavement

And then later that night was karaoke time.

basketball video

I think I fixed my camcorder problem. I just have to go through imovie but now I can upload from my own computer. So here is one of the videos I took of Kyle's first basketball game. And be sure and take note that Kyle scores a basket at the end! It was one of three he scored that day.

2010 Project Life

Last year I was successful in taking a picture every day of the year. The fruits of my labor can be seen on this blog: Everyday Life in Photos. I am in the process of working on the scrapbook to go along with these photos, I am about half way through with that. When Becky Higgins put together a new kit for this year called Project Life I knew I wanted one this year. So Kelley ordered one for me when she ordered hers. I am not going to pull my hair out trying to take a picture everyday (because there were some days that were hard to get the picture) but I am going to put forth a good effort. I did start another blog for this year's photos, keeping up with the blog helps me to keep up with it better. Here is the new blog: 2010 Daily Photos.

So far I have completed my pages for the week on Saturday night. So I have the first two weeks done already. I probably won't keep that up because I am printing the pictures at home and that is a lot more expensive than ordering them online.

Shoot and Score

Kyle had his first basketball game this morning. It was hilarious! I have a couple of videos but I have to wait til I go out to Luke's to upload those since my new sony handycam isn't compatible with my mac (grrr!).

That is Kyle shooting the ball. He made 3 shots during the game.

When the other team got the ball, Kyle figured out real quick to run and get underneath the goal so he could get the rebound.
